Comment: This variable gathers information about the students' eventual level of responsibility if successful in reaching their stated aspirations - their Hoped-for Future Self. To be in a position of influence and responsibility in later life might be appealing and some students might remain motivated at an early stage in order to achieve a goal at a later stage in their lives. The probable level of responsibility was coded according to the following scale:
 

0 = No stated aspirations or no career/vocational choice made.
1 = Unskilled work or unspecified employment.
2 = Skilled work/trade qualifications/primary production.
3 = Professional/managerial.
